Mojave's Links...

I like to think the diversity of these links reflects a balanced life--but it probably just reflects a confused one. No matter; join in the confusion!

OK, now for the good stuff...

It's BatManda! Not only is she a friend, she's my favorite superhero on the Web. Check it out... the Journey Home.... is a truly inspirational site--well worth your time. Hey, what would the web be without webcams? A difficult question, eh? Well, don't try to answer it just yet; have a look at the justly-famous JenniCAM in the meantime. And while we're in the realm of women, I've got to put a plug in for Ask-a-Chick. Yeah, that's exactly what it is. Yeah, you know you need it...

Sick to death of love and romance? Never want to read about passion and longing again? Then don't go to Blender of Love! But if you're feeling ecstatic and joyous--or dejected and masochistic--it's certainly an excellent compendium of romantic creations on the Web.

Want to laugh, cry, read just about the best damn poetry to be found anywhere? Misti Velvet Rainwater is someone I'm honored to know, and I think her poetry is simply extraordinary. Take a look for yourself... If you become as Misti-obsessed as I and want to read further, you'll find a lot more of her work on Blender of Love.

OK, need a laugh? I know, who doesn't... If, like me, you consider humor to be as basic as breathing, you might enjoy some of these sites. At the top of any such list would have to be the Church of the Subgenius. This site would probably not have come into being without it (not to mention my life being a cold, empty existence). Become a Believer if you dare... There's also Bert is Evil, which exposes something you may not have been aware of. Well...get informed! (This site is the original Bert Is Evil site, by the way. Do not confuse it with all the others you may have seen...) Beware: more humor links are coming--and quite possibly a whole Kevin Smith is God page in MD&E.

Scary things? Well, there's the original Blair Witch Project site! Some would say this too should be filed under humor; I happen to consider the film to be high art. You may disagree...

Abbey's Web is probably the best single site devoted to the life and work of Edward Abbey, true American original, anarchist, desert lover, literary outlaw, and too many other things for me to list here. Speaking of the desierto, if you're heading out there anytime soon, DesertUSA is an invaluable reference. They've got a great free online magazine, too. Another great online desert resource is Desert Space, a labor of love by a guy in Oregon who describes himself as, among other things, a "lover of the freedom of wide open spaces." Amen.

Current musical obsessions? Everything But the Girl--a site "written, conceived, designed and updated by EBTG themselves." I'm impressed. You will be too. "All pleasures consist in variety," said Samuel Johnson, and in the world of music, there's Moby. Killer breaks? Check out DJ Shadow. This site is also a great resource for other DJ Shadow web links.

Cookies, anyone? Well, I just had to pass this one along... (I am posting it word-for-word as I came across it. Thanks Bat...)

Politics... Distasteful to many and for good reason. I know I think about it less and less and am no doubt happier for it. That said, the Libertarian Party is definitely worth a look. I don't agree with them on everything, but they're dead-on when it comes to issues of Net censorship and the absurdity of consensual crimes in a free society. Let's end the "Drug War" today!

OK, I want to let you know--if you don't already--about my two favorite ezines. But you must, I mean must, promise to come back! The first is Shift Online, which is, logically enough, the Net version of Shift Magazine. And the second is real gem: suburban outcast. (It's what md&e wants to be like when it grows up.)

Thanks to everyone who encouraged me in this process, both through their words and their own Web-creations. You guys rule! I should also mention CoolGraphics.com for their assistance (an excellent resource) and, of course, GeoCities. Where would I be without 'em?
