Thanksgiving is celebrated in the United states on the last Thursday in November. It is said to have been started by the original European settlers and the natives who offered them hospitality when they came to the New World: a decision those natives have regretted ever since. The "Indians" (so called because of a navigational error and a case of mistaken identity) brought the starving settlers food and helped them to make it through the first terrible winter. Many of the foods we love and associate with this gluttonous holiday were provide by the locals and had been overlooked by the Europeans, including turkey, sweet potatoes, and pumpkins.
