I work for a major American airline and wanted to do something special to celebrate New Years, so a group of us got together and planned a trip to Peru to commemmorate the new millenium. Seeing Machu Pichu at dawn on January 1, 2001 was a sight none of us will ever forget!
We flew into Lima two days after Christmas, and were bussed out
to the spot on the Inca Trail where our hike was to begin. It was a
grueling (uphill) two day hike, and then a delay while we worked out
some additional compensation with the local authorities (their idea of
a Christmas bonus, we presumed). But we were finally allowed to pitch
our tents and wait for the Big Event.
After being bussed back down to Lima (walking one way was enough, thank you!) the discussion then turned to what we could do to top this incredible trip. The six of us have decided to go to Egypt this summer, but thankfully they no longer allow anyone to climb up the pyramids!
