The Water Cycle

Water falls from the sky as rain, snow, and sleet.
BUT HOW DID IT GET WAY UP THERE ANYWAY???
Answer:
THE WATER CYCLE

Over the last few months, our fourth grade class conducted several experiments to answer one simple question:  "What is going on with all that wacky water???"  Needless to say, the question turned out to be less simple than we thought.  We found the answers via the following experiments.

Student Reactions:
What was your favorite experiment and why?
Did any of the results of the experiments surprise you?
  • "My favorite experiment was when we made our terrariums.  It was really cool to see how fast the seeds grew!  I was surprised to find out that the water that my cup "sweated" was from the air and not from the water in my cup [Condensation Experiment]."  -Mike
  • "I liked painting and mixing the colors in the first experiment [Precipitation Experiment].  It was neat to see the "rain" dripping from no where when we melted the ice."  -Maggie
  • "I liked the Evaporation Experiment. When we checked on our plates, the water was gone and I didn't know where it went!  I was surprised when I found out that it was in the air.  I thought my partner had spilled it when he carried it to the windowsill!"  -Jordan
