Sofia

I still like Bulgaria, I really do. I'm not sure what's so special about this country, but everything seems so relaxed. The people are nice, the architecture is unexcited, the language seems manageable... I want to live here!

When I arrived in Sofia on Sunday morning it was dark, cold... and raining! Not the best welcome. But when I found the hostel, it all began to make sense again. What a lovely place! The staff is super-friendly, the rooms lovely, they even provide a great breakfast and "past and beer" in the evening, and there is free internet including wireless.

That said, my computer wouldn't connect to the wireless network! A worst case scenario! We tried every setting, and switched the router off and on, but to no avail... Then, suddenly on the last night, it did work for no apparent reason. Thank God, because I was worried my network card may have gone bust.

The internet problem was the most exciting thing that happened in Sofia. Otherwise I just walked around very relaxed, and didn't do much else. I visited the churches and the mosque, went to the museum, and bought an icon. Guess of which saint? I'm happy I did buy one this time because I didn't last year and regretted it later. Everything is really cheap in this country so I had some money left anyway.
I bought my bus ticket to Skopje and was proud because I said my phrases in Bulgarian this time. No sign language and no pointing.

I have booked the Switzerland flights and trains now. Peer pressure made me do it! LOL Kristine and Sybille are coming as well. Hopefully George will be, too...
I was hesitating to book because I will have to take 0.5 days of work and I don't have enough holidays left... not if there are 10 gigs in January!
But on the other hand I wouldn't survive without seeing him again before January, would I? ;-)
