Augusten Burroughs -- Magical Thinking
Friday

I went down to London Friday night -- for nothing.
Thursday afternoon Frank had finally updated the website, and May 12 said "DJ gig in Las Palmas", not "PA at Crash". I emailed Frank and Crash, and both came back confirming that George would be there. Frank even confirmed that George would be in "Mallorca" even though Las Palmas is on Gran Canaria! I had mixed it up with Palma de Mallorca in my email, my mistake -- but VERY worrying if Frank didn't even know which part of the world he was flying to! The Canary Islands of all places, almost in fucking Africa!
Poor Kristine had of course come a long way for a basically eventless night. We only went for a small drink in tropical Soho (it was a very day).
I could have cancelled and rebooked my hotel and trains and just gone to Birmingham the next day from home, but then I realised that I had Kristine's train ticket up from London to Birmingham, so I just went anyway.

Saturday

The next day the rain was back, and we went to Birmingham. There still was no indication at the club or anywhere else in town that the gig was actually happening, which was a bit worrying. It was definitely the least publicised gig ever! Not only did nobody confirm that it was happening, the club kept outright denying it until one day before!
And who was supposed to go to that Las Palmas gig which was announced less than 24 hours beforehand?! It seems somebody is trying desperately to shake us off! LOL
At night I went to Kristine's hotel to pick her up and it turned out that Stuey was there! He was refusing to come to the club however because he was moving to Turkey -- no, sorry: Torquay -- the next day. Apparently George had phoned and confirmed that he was "on the way", so that was as good a confirmation as we could get. I wonder how pleased Stuey really was to see me and how that pleased-ness will translate into forum speech. LOL

The club was actually quite pleasant, but not really crowded. And of course nobody knew that George was supposed to turn up, or who he was in the first place.
George looked lovely and played some new stuff, but is was a shortish gig. I can't really blame him, the dance floor was virtually empty by 2AM even though the remaining people were obviously enjoying themselves.

But the real big news this week are of course the concerts that now have been confirmed for June 8 and 9! The Thursday gig is already sold out! No wonder, I think the venue is tiny. I have to make sure I get tickets tomorrow morning at 9 for Friday when they go on sale! I'm also buying tickets for a couple of other people "without credit cards"...
I am now SO glad that we have booked the last week of May for the holidays and not the first week of June!! That would have been a disaster.
Hopefully Susan will be able to come to London as well, and many more people are travelling -- so this should be fun!
Tommy from Crash has now also confirmed that the PA thingy has been rescheduled for June 9 -- for after the concert.
Gosh, I can hardly keep up with all the stuff happening...!

Oh, and just look what happens when I turn my back for a minute (well, I haven't really...) LOL:

Issue of the weekend:
Animal testing

I believe this will grow into a really big issue in Britain now. The mad extremists will get more scary. And most people do not have enough information to form an educated opinion on it anyway.
