Oh man, what a week! Work is very busy, and Friday was extremely bad: One of those amazing days when each crisis you are currently dealing with is topped by another crisis even bigger!! KbTS have fucked up. They simply failed to resource 3 large TechNet batches, and didn't even TELL us! They escalated the issue straight to Christina who said that we should do the batches manually and charge the client extra I have never seen Amanda so purple, LOL! So at 7 PM it was of course me that had to fix it. Resourcing 100,000 words into 2 languages by tomorrow morning. Fucking hell! Of course I checked my inbox yesterday and today and have started booking the freelancers that had replied over the weekend. I have managed to resource 100% of the French, but the German is still looking grim I have to send the files out by tomorrow morning, otherwise people won't have enough time. And I still have to split the batches across dozens of translators and reviewers. I will have to be in the office at 8 AM to get anything done in time... Friday night we also had our departmental Christmas party. It was fun, but the restaurant gave us very little leg room. It was like being on a plane! I didn't take any pictures because there was no space for my handbag. LOL Also on Friday, George sent Kristine a PM telling her that Bonnie had died of cancer. He seemed very upset. Kristine and Susan posted a tribute to her on the forum. I never met her but she was a part of our lives in the late 80s. Even the girls still remember her and our letter about JD. Something made me think of the song Rain King by Counting Crows. Don't try to bleed me I belong She's she's been dying My sight had been deteriorating in the past 3
weeks, and I couldn't see clear with contact lenses or glasses,
drunk or sober. So I had a sight test on Tuesday, but they only
discovered that one of my eyes had very slightly worsened. They sent off
my existing glasses to have one lens replaced, and I picked another pair
of new glasses as well. I don't really know why I bought another pair of
glasses, it was not necessary. It's not like I have a lot of money this
month - I am already on my savings... Anyway, the glasses are green, and
look nice. I will take a photo, but not today. I don't look
presentable at the moment. Oh, to add to the list of ailments: My sinuses are still not better. My left ear has started to buzz again, and I am now almost deaf on one side. I will have to see a doctor, but of course there are no NHS ear, nose, throat doctors in Sheffield and I haven't quite figured out the Hallamshire Hospital system. apparently you need a GP referral, and I'm afraid that will take ages. I'll give them a cal (using my good ear) tomorrow. |
