| Though just a working class "joe" and one of millions who fought for the US in WWII, Frank Rock epitomized the never-say-die attitude of the American Forces be it Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines...He was one bad hombre'! Rock enlisted the day after Japan bombed pearl harbor. As a Private Rock served under General George Patton, and was part of the forces that whooped Erwin Rommel in N Africa. Rock became Sergeant in a field promotion for bravery, and was also offered many other promotions, but always chose to remain with his men instead of going for rank. Rock was an exceptional hand-to-hand combatant. He was a skilled marksman and was very effective with the weapons of his day. It was a rare occasion that his leadership of Easy Company did not carry the day. His leadership, courage and determination made him appear to be larger than life. |
