Meet Hj Mohd Noor Bin Hj Adnin, a Bruneian whose interest is keeping fighting fish is still keen to keep more in his aquarium.

Currently, he keeps 11 pairs, some imported from neighbouring countries.

He started this hobby August last year. He even breeds fighting fish species of two different colours to get a new beautiful species with a combination of both colours.

At present, he has completed breeding the Single, Double Crown Tail, Half Moon Single and Double Tail.

He also cultured the Micro Worm and Artemia (Brine shrimp). He also produces ideal food for his fish in his residence in Kampong Tungku.

He admitted this hobby is costly. A crown tail species for instance, costs him $US45 each in Thailand.

Mohd Noor said it is an offence to export the local fighting fish from Brunei to other countries as the species is considered as endangered.

Due to his interest, he set-up his own homepage to exchange information among fighting fish lovers.

He even interacts via newspaper to learn more on this species.

He likes to know people who keep or breed this fish. He can be contacted via e-mail at [email protected]

Asked on his future plan, Mohd Noor said he only keeps the fish as a hobby. If you want to fully dedicate your time to this fish, you need to sacrifice your career, he said.

Fighting fish, as the name suggests, fight until their skin bleeds.

He said that the life span of fighting fish is only three years and the biggest fish can grow only up to three inches.

However, he said fighting fish could produce up to 500 eggs.
