I flew to India by British Airways on 27th of June 2006 and was supposed to return back to US on 27th of July 2006. My family which includes my wife and my 6 month old son were booked on the same British Airways flight to come back to Philadelphia, USA. Our flight was to departing Bangalore, India at 5:30 AM on 27th of July 2006. Around 9:00 PM on 26th of July 2006, I fell extremely sick and had to be rushed into Emergency Ward of a Hospital due to severe stomach spasms, vomiting and diarrhea. While in the Hospital, I was treated with antibiotic injections, pain killing injections and intravenous fluids to keep me hydrated. I called British Airways office around 11:00 PM the same night in order to request for a postponement of the return tickets for the 3 of us. I was told by the British Airways official that the reservation office was closed and he could not do any thing for us at that moment and asked me call back the next morning. My wife and son could not continue on her return journey as my wife was taking care of me in the hospital. This meant that I and my family had no choice but to miss the 5:30 AM flight on 27th morning.
The following day, after a 12 hour stay in the hospital I was discharged 11:00 AM. I made my way to British Airways office where I was delivered the shock of my life. I was informed that My E-ticket which I bought from British Airways website could not be canceled or postponed and I have to buy a new one way ticket for myself to fly back to US on July 28th. I still have a copy of my E-Ticket which does not mention about its restrictive nature. Further more; I was informed that I can postpone the return tickets for my wife and son by paying a fee of $100.00 per head, but the next travel date that was available for them was September 7. My 6 month old son was due for his vaccine shots on August 3rd, which meant that I had to buy one way tickets for them to fly back with me on the 28th of July itself.
Summing up, I not only had to go through the bad experience of being Hospitalized but also was arm-twister by British airways to shell out close to $2500.00 for buying one way tickets to come back home. I was shown no curtsy in British Airways office in Bangalore.
British Airways, You have cheated me!!!
