| He is a very important American detective writer and many people in a lot of countries read his works. Why have his books been read today? Because they are attractive, of course. Now I am going to introduce him and his works; not only novels but also TV show and radio programs. Two men together made Ellery Queen. Frederic Dannay (1905-1982) and Manfred Bennington Lee(1905-1971) wrote books as Ellery Queen and they are cousins. They entered a prize competition of detective stories and they got a prize. Ellery Queen came out with his prize novel, The Roman Hat mystery. Ellery Queen is a character in stories of his works. He is a detective writer and a play writer. His father is an inspector in New York Police Department. He helps his father and solves murder cases brilliantly. He writes books based on them. The structure of his works is influenced by S.S.Van Dine. He used the plot like a puzzle. Agatha Christie and John Dickson Carr also used this plot style. Moreover he published Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine to find great short stories, which weren?ft famous and held contests for new writers. His works were released in other ways. Radio programs were aired by CBS in 1946. TV shows were broadcast in 1975. They aired in Japan too. Comic books appeared in Crackajack Funnies in 1938. There are many home websites and books about Queen.. One of a lot of Queen websites, Ellery Queen Fan Club in Japan publishes Queendom. There are essays and examinations about him.
