Almost As Good As It Gets |
It is Friday night, after a long week at work, and you do not feel like cooking dinner. Capri Pizza and Italian Restaurant is the perfect solution. The atmosphere calms your frayed nerves, the food satisfies your hunger, and the price saves the money in your wallet. It is a great place for a family or for a bunch a friends. Capri is another Hampton Roads hidden treasure, and it can be found off of Foxhill Rd., in the Willow Oaks Shopping Center. |

Stepping into Capri is almost like stepping back into the past. Dark brown colors surround you from head to toe. Capri is not a big or crowded restaurant, so be prepared to seat yourself. There are dozens of booths to choose from. Each booth is brown, with relaxing, sinking seats. Make sure to sit on the edge of the seat, or the quicksand seats will suck you in. The lights are low, which helps keep the brown accents a constant theme through the restaurant. Joan Johnston, a writer for the Daily Press, said that Carmela's, an Italian restaurant, has a cozy, casual atmosphere. I think the same could be said about Capri. The highlight of dining at Capri is the jukebox. Since Capri is rarely crowded, the jukebox is always ready to be played, and it is a lot of fun. You can find songs from N'Sync to Garth Brooks. |

Capri serves a wide variety of Italian foods. Kathy Van Mullekom, also a writer for the Daily Press, stated, Carmela's menu is just as large as its boat-like platters. I feel that the menu's selection is similar to Carmela's. However, the prices are much cheaper than Carmela's. The food at Capri is very tasty. The tomato sauce is sweet, and the eggplant is crispy. The food is not quite as good as Carmela's, but it runs a close second. The portions vary from meal to meal. A small sub is enough for one person. However, a small stromboli is enough to feed a whole family. Capri has a small selection of wines and beers. According to the Daily Press, Capri receives 5 stars out of 5 stars. You can also dine-in or take out. The payment method can be a credit card or cash. |

The wait staff is very friendly. They are professionally dressed in black pants and white shirts, which allows them to pop out of the brown background. As soon as you walk in, they bring menus to your table and then allow you to peruse the choices. I felt that their timing was always appropriate. In some restaurants, customers have to wait for their check for ten minutes, but Capri's wait staff is very attentive. Since Capri is never croweded, the wait staff does not mind if you stick around just to chat with your dining companions. |

Capri is a great place to go after a long week. It is nice to go out and eat, but sometimes it can be a hassle. Capri is never a hassle. It is the perfect place to chat with friends because the wait staff is not trying to turn over your table. If cash flow is low, but you want a great Italian meal, then Capri is the place for you. Capri may not have all the bells and whistles (well, there is a jukebox), but it is a fabulous place to eat. You will walk out wondering why you never ate there before, and chances are you will become a repeat customer. The service is quick and friendly, the food is cheap and tasty, and the atmosphere is relaxed. If you can get over the brown color motif, and low light, then you are in for a special treat. |
