Europa Universalis Unlimited Patch
 Moctezuma 2001

DISCLAIMER
----------------
This patch is not associated with Paradox Entertainment and I do not take any responsibility for any adverse effects this patch might have on your game or other software. Use it at your own risk!
WARNING: This patch modifies europa.exe. Backup copy of original file is automatically stored as europaOrig.exe.

FEATURES
----------------
Europa Univeralis is designed to simulate 1492 to 1792 period.
However the same game engine with little modifications can be easily used for much wider period. Hundred years war, Fall of Constantinople or Napoleonic wars are an examples.
This patch allows you to design and play any scenario since 0 AD afterwards (Unfortunately BC years are not supported because the game cannot handle negative values).
This patch does not affect existing scenarios. It is tested on german 1.08 and 1.09 versions but may work with any language version (not tested).

USAGE
------
HOW PLAY BEFORE 1492:
This is very easy:
1. Copy EUUnlimited.exe to the game directory and apply this patch.
2. In the globaldata part of scenario (INC file) change entry startdate to desired date.
3. Play!

HOW PLAY AFTER 1792:
Unfortunately this is possible only in mission based scenarios (e.g. War of Independence).
Scenarios with standard victory conditions always ends in 29 December 1792 because game overrides any changes in entry enddate (I haven't found the way how to disable this).

To extend the game after 1792 you must do following:
1. Copy EUUnlimited.exe to the game directory and apply this patch.
2. In the globaldata part of scenario (INC file) change entry enddate to desired date.
3. To the header part of scenario (EUG file) add following line: gametype = 3
4. Play! (Scenario is now mission based so you cannot use F1 to see current Victory Points)

If you want to do it your save files, you can use the same way. Just play the game till 29 December 1792 when End Scenario Message appears. Now save the game (ignoring the message!), exit game, edit scenario file, load scenario and play!

NOTES
-----
Here are some notes from my test (Hands-off game with modified Grand Campaign started in 1392 using 1.09 patch).

1. Monarchs and leaders work without problems (tested with the Popes, which are defined from 1389).

2. CoTs in Venice and Genoa have great influence during the fifteenth century covering almost 3/4 of Europe. I think it is not the problem and it gives quite historical feel to the game.

3. Too early colonization doesn't happen. In my hands-off tests first colonies were established at 1486, when Columbus appeared. However occasional earlier colonies can occur due to random events. Only problem, which I see here is that Portugal can enter terra incognita sea zones without explorer => not recommended for human control.

3. Land and Naval tech advancement: Surprisingly they work quite OK. During the fifteenth century is research for most countries very slow: about 3 levels in 100 years!

4. Infra and Trade tech advancement: Here is advancement faster but this can be prevented using monarchs with low administrative skill.

5. Religion events: (Reformation, Calvin etc.) are not problem too. In the original Grand Campaign first event 'Reformation' occurs about 30 years after start of scenario. To delay it you must add following line to the globaldata part of scenario file:

  progress = { 0.000000 -350.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 }

where -350 represents about 100 years delay.
