Mo Jamal has been playing classical and traditional Persian music from an early age. After the Iranian revolution in 1979 he was forced to leave his homeland. He then continued his artistic endeavor in Europe, including France and Germany. In 1994 he immigrated to the United States and now resides in Austin, Texas. Mo Jamal achieved his particular style through combining Persian traditional-music with the techniques of classical and cotemporary Jazz violin. He composed most of his pieces for solo violin. He believes he can express his soul more freely via a solo instrument rather than an orchestra. The music in this CD is based an one of the important Iranian classical modes (dastgah) called Mahur, which is performed here in D-major. Mahur is identical to Western major scale and is one of the oldest Iranian dastgah. In the future, Mo Jamal intends to perform all of the dastgah in his unique style. Rather than focusing on dejection, lowliness and self- blame that arise from Iran's long history of suffering invasions, Mo's music brings forth happiness, hope, dignity, glory and optimism.
