A FEATURE WRITER & OPEN MIKE EVERY WEEK

SUMMER READING SERIES

Vancouver installation poet T.S. Thomas will present new work on the Inner Harbour promenade in Victoria, B.C. on June 19, from 3 to 8 pm.

This installation is part of an ongoing series of public works involving the placement of large text on city pavements. ThomasÕ poem is a hybrid composition that incorporates a stanza written by Vancouver poet Christopher Patton. The project, titled POETICS (IN)FORM, introduces traditional verse forms and experimental collaborative writing. It was inspired by the Òglosa,Ó an early Renaissance form of the Spanish court, recently reintroduced by P.K. Page in her book ÒHologram.Ó

While in Victoria, Thomas will read from his forthcoming chapbook, ÔThe Sage Caution of Anne McLellanÕ at open mike night at Mocambo Cafe (1028 Blanchard) Friday, June 18.

ThomasÕ most recent installation was in Utrecht, The Netherlands (April 99) where he floated a line of text on a canal. The installation was a contribution to a symposium called ÔIn The Event of Text: Ephemeralities of Writing.Õ The symposium was held at the Utrecht School for the Arts. A screening of the Holland installation will be held at BYO8 night at The Blinding Light!!! cinema in Vancouver on June 10. Show time 8 p.m.
