The history of Moby the Van.
I sold the van to Tom in Indiana as of 6/19/02. He plans to put a big block Chevy in it. I can't wait to see the pics of that. I will leave this page intact as a partial history of Moby the van. So here is the story behind Moby, a 1968 Chevy van. My uncle owned it for several years, my cousin then took it to Kansas for a few years, then a friend of the family owned it for a few years and then I bought it. The body was really straight and solid. I replaced the fuse box and rebuilt the brake cylinders. Took it to the shop and had the front end rebuilt. Then I put new wheel bearings in the front. Had to replace the front leaf spring brackets, they had busted and the van had been driven that way for several years. It was in real good mechanical shape , except that the 355 V8 I dropped in would not cool properly. I did a fair amount of experimenting with fan shrouds and a second radiator, but I could never get it to cool properly. So I pulled the engine and decided to sell the van to Tom. He has several Chevy vans and last I heard he planned to put a big block in Moby. That will be fun!
The inside of the van is not too bad. The back needs to be finished and some attention given to the rust on the floor boards. Sanding should get rid of that rust, it is pretty light. It wouldn't be a van if it wasn't full of junk. Notice another arcade machine setting in it.
Got a couple dings in the front from the doors swinging all the way. That happened because the stops on the inside of the doors are busted, another welding project.
The worst rust on the van is behind the wheels, the passenger side is the worst of the two. Shouldn't be hard to get the rust cut out and stopped.
Got a little bit of rust around the drip rails at the back of the van. Not too bad yet. Check out the spoiler, I had to take it off to get the van in the garage.
