Course: Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex (Ackerman Hills Course) Architect: Jeff Kissel Released: TBA Purdue University's Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex has two courses: Ackerman Hills and Kampen. Ackerman Hills is a tight, hilly layout that winds through the hills north of the Purdue campus. I can walk right out the front door of the Phi Kappa Theta house, where I live, and see the 8th hole. I have played it dozens of times and like it better than BBGC's "main attraction", the new Kampen course. I think it will make a very enjoyable JNSE course once completed, which unfortunately won't be until school starts because I may need to do some "research" out on the course. My goal, however, is to finish the course by our Homecoming football weekend, when I will host the 1st Annual JNSE Purdue Open here at Ackerman Hills. If I don't finish by then, I'll do the tournament during our bowl game. I intend this tournament to be a yearly event and will rotate it to the Kampen course when I finish that, hopefully before Homecoming in 2001. Ackerman Hills has many beautiful and tricky holes, but my favorites are: #1, a short par 4 along the road which can be very tricky; #6, a mid-length par 3 with a GREAT view of campus (this may be the hard part to duplicate; I'll see what I can do with the background); #8, a very tight short par 5; #13, a beautiful short par 3 over a ravine; and #18, a tricky par 5 along the same road as on #1. I intend to put my full effort into this course once school starts. I really want this course to be my best JNSE design ever, because it's one of my favorite courses to play in real life, anywhere.
