| This page is under construction Ladies and gentlemen, I stand before you to stand behind you to tell you something of which I know nothing about. Late last night, about two o'clock this afternoon, an empty truck loaded with bricks ran over a dead cat and killed it. It is now in the hospital recovering from an acute case of good health. If you were a witness to the events described below, I urge you to wear your seat belt at all times when you're driving. If you were not a witness, I urge you to wear your seat belts at all times when you're driving.. Thank you for being so attentive...Hey, you, fella. I said... All seriousness aside, want to have some fun? GNAP&PB staff have decided to start a Poetry Project. You say what is a Poetry Project? It's like a quilting bee, only more poetic. It's like a spelling bee only with more words (spelled right, right?) But instead of a bunch of people sitting around quilting...well, quilts, or spelling words, we want a bunch of people sitting around creating the "perfect, international poem". To start with, you can send us the beginning lines of any poem that comes to mind, hopefully original material that everyone will think is interesting, and upon which we all can build. The only rules we can think of right now are: 1. Timing of the postings will depend on the frequency of the submissions (probably about 4 or 5). 2. Anybody can make suggestions about improving the poem at any stage of its creation. (The idea is to make the perfect poem, right?) 3. When someone's entry is used, that person's material won't be used for the next three (3) postings, since we don't want one person writing the whole thing. (However, anyone can critique the poem as a whole, anytime.) 4. Whether it be a word, a sentence, a stanza, or from an existing poem, any material may be submitted as long as it is the person's original work. 5. Every part of the poem will be subject to change at any posting until the poem is finally completed. 6. If there's a major differnce of opinion concerning any aspect of the poem, GNAP&PB staff will take a poll of all those who have submitted material or critiqued. 7. GNAP&PB staff will be the final arbitrators of the content and direction of the poem, taking polls into consideration. 8. Submissions can be sent to GNAP&PB by email, or posted on our "guestbook." 9. Any of these rules can be changed if necessary to insure that the Project remains fair, fun and constructive. 10. Each participant will have her or his name (or handle, non de plume, pseudonym, alias, nick name) posted on a special bulletin board in the Library. When the poem is complete, all those folks who worked on it will get a copy of the poem by email from GNAP&PB with a letter showing participation and co-ownership. Ladies and Germs, guys and gals, girls and boys start your engines! Let the games begin. Damn the torpedoes and full speed ahead! Remember the Alamo. |
