Sister District Sleepover V: Gateway to the Future is all about service and socialization. Prepare for a weekend of making friends, having a good time, and making an impact on children's lives. We'll be staying at Kiwanis Camp Wyman and helping them renovate some newly-acquired properties.
Kiwanis Camp Wyman is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the development of youth from all kinds of backgrounds. It serves both as a summer camp and year-round event facility for at-risk, underpriveleged, and disadvantaged children. Over 1800 children attend the camp each summer, including those with developmental disabilities and chronic illnesses. During the other three seasons, the camp coordinates with local school faculties to host educational programs for teachers and students. Throughout the year, the main focus of the camp is to promote self-worth, self-respect and respect for others. Check out Wyman's website for more information on the camp, its programs, and its objectives.
The camp recently purchased an adjacent plot of land with a house, garage and barn. Our weekend will be centered around helping them in their efforts to clean out these three buildings and get them ready for use as regular camp facilities for next summer. We'll be hauling out scrap items left in the structures, cleaning gutters, and maybe doing some painting or wall-papering. So bring a good work ethic and some clothes that can get messy.
Hope you'll join us for this fun and worthwhile experience!
