The Farmers Mutual Protective Assn. of Texas (RVOS) was organized on February
22, 1901 by nine citizens of Czech descent, all of whom resided in Bell County
near the community known as Ocker. The basis of our organization was to provide
mutual assistance to each other in the event of a loss by fire, lightening, or
storm. Organized as a nonprofit organization, each member obligated themselves
to pay pro rata the losses of other members. Articles of Incorporation were
completed on June 6, 1901. On July 12, 1901, the Association began writing
insurance. The initials RVOS are the first letters of the name of the
Association as written in the Czech language. The Czech spelling is as follows:
Rolnicky Vzajemne Ochranny Spolek. The nine charter members who organized the
Association were: J.R. Marek, Martin Stepan, J.R. Schiller, F.J. Wotipka, Jos.
Wentrcek, F.V. Schiller, Jan Baletka, Joe Schiller and Jan Zabcik. Descendants
of these founders are still insured with our Association. Today, the Farmers
Mutual Protective Association of Texas (RVOS) strives to provide for as many of
our members insurance needs as possible. With some of the best home, farm, and
ranch insurance policies available, the Farmers Mutual Protective Association
of Texas (RVOS) heads an expanding corporate group of companies. Texas RVOS
Insurance Company provides personal and farm liability insurance, commercial
fire and liability insurance, umbrellas and more. Texas RVOS Managing General
Agency currently provides automobile insurance policies. More products will be
added soon. A 100th Anniversary celebration is now being planned for 2001.
Hopefully we will have details soon. The real story is that after 100 years of
service to rural Texans, our Association is still committed to the principles
upon which we were founded. Texans helping Texans.
