Writing notes
...an infrequent journal about the perils, problems, and sometime joys of my writing life...
July 25, 2006

Wrote a little over 900 words for the mystery/crime story this morning after sleeping in too much. Noticed that though I really do care about this story, I have had to force myself to write. Haven't really felt like doing it when I get started. I am operating under the assumption that the good habits will be made at these moments of writing rather than having three or four good days or weeks in a row.

Worked on revising a poem and a story. Did revision of a different poem yesterday, and I looked at the one I worked on today, but could find anything I could do with it, but didn't feel it was publication ready. This afternoon, I took it out and cut the first two lines and made a couple of little changes. Don't know if it is ready, but it is stronger.

The story I worked to revise is the cell phone/accident story. I was going through first revision stage, where I hope to work on content related issues. But the only content related thing I changed was adding a little more about the minor injury the protagonist suffers. Thought it should be referred to more often. There were some sentence-level changes, but nothing major. I like the story a little more, but I'm not sure it is interesting. So it needs to sit a little while I think about it.

Tomorrow I will read my poem "On Violence" at a cultural event in downtown Dallas. So if I'm going to write much of anything, I guess I'll have to get up earlier.
