Writing notes
...an infrequent journal about the perils, problems, and sometime joys of my writing life...

Did some work on a story I already hate. Thought I'd have it as a short-short, but it is already past 750 words and if I end it now, it will be too abupt (though) I do want the ending to sting a little. Anyway, that will be two stories in a row that I have not liked as I wrote, but that I continued drafting because I am afraid that if I stop, I'll stay stopped.

Walked with the dog and thought about writing poetry and cleaning my study, two things I might be a bit more successful at. Maybe.

Have spent some time trying to submit everything I have that's worth publishing (and a few things that are not worth the light of day, but I might get lucky with). I figure with the extra time of summer, I don't have much excuse to not try. Besides, if I keep at it, perhaps I won't have so much time to be depressed at each rejection.

Got a rejection yesterday of some poems I submitted to 2River. Today I got a rejection of an old story of mine, "First Confession." But this rejection did come with a nice note that made, I think, a lot of sense. Perhaps what I should do during these times when I can't get much writing done is work on revise stories like these. Anyway, editors rarely comment on work because they don't have the time. I'm appreciative for this note from the editor of Noneuclidean Cafe.

Trying to get up early to write before my kids get up so I can have some quiet to work and unabated access to my computer. Have not been able to sleep much, so I guess I've slept in. Must get more discipline.
