Why do you care what people do with their bodies? Get a better hobby man, I know you might mean well, but this is just silly.

Peace,
O. (the tattooed jew)

Peace unto you O.!

If you are advocating the "live and let live" philosophy, you should know that Judaism is diametrically opposed to this. The Torah says "You shall not hate your brother in your heart; you shall surely rebuke your friend, and you shall not bear sin upon him (Vayikra 19:17, Maimonides Laws of Character ch.6). Our Rabbis taught us (Shavuot 39A) "all Jews are responsible for one another".

Why do I care what people do with their bodies? Because if a Jew gets a tattoo, he is violating a Torah precept. I, as a Jew, am obligated to tell him that what he is doing is wrong.

If you saw that one of your loved ones was about to make a terrible mistake or commit a crime would you say "live and let live" or would you speak up and tell him what you think? If you picked the first option, then you don't really love him.

Since you describe yourself as "the tattooed Jew" I guess you already have one or more tattoos. How should we deal with spilled milk? See http://www.aish.com/literacy/concepts/Teshuvah_-_Fixing_Mistakes.asp for an answer.

Thank you for sharing your ideas with me. Although I disagree personally, what you say does make sense. After all, as Jews we are surely all in this together. I will check your links as I am always interested in viewing all sides and as many perspectives as possible.

Peace,
O.
