Subject: Removal of tattoos for the Jewish
To: [email protected]
I happened to surf upon your page while looking up information on
tattoos for a speech I will be giving. I have a few questions I am
hoping you can answer for me. First is, if a Jewish person gets a
tattoo, then gets it removed, is it okay then? Are they considered, for
lack of a better term, a "good Jew" once again? Although I am not
Jewish, I have always been curious about this faith. Hopefully you can
help me. Thanks!

Hello T. and thanks for writing.
The tattoo does not have to be removed. The sin is GETTING the tattoo, and
not HAVING a tattoo. After one sins, one must repent. This involves, among
other things, regretting having sinned, confessing the sin to G-d, and
resolving not to repeat the sin in the future. This is true for any
transgression.
I hope this helps.
