Hello,
I recently visited you Website. I am not Jewish, and I attend a Catholic
school (even though I am not Catholic). In religion class one day, a priest
from our parish was answering questions. One of the questions was whether
tattoos and piercings were sins. After going to your site and looking up
Leviticus 19:28 myself, I began to think.
In another page, you said that Gentiles can have tattoos and that the
scripture was just for Jews. But wouldn't it (the scripture, not your Web
page) also apply to Catholics and those of the Christian faith? Also, does
anything (that you know of) in the Bible say anything against body piercing.
Like I said before, I am not Catholic nor a Jew, but your site really
made me think. If people of the Jewish faith shouldn't have tattoos, then why
should I get one? I believe in God, but I have not found a faith that I feel
strongly for. Because of this, I sometimes get confused in what I should and
should not believe in, but I would still like to thank you for your site.
Thanks,
S.
Hi S.
Thanks for writing.
In my web site I presented an Orthodox Jewish view regarding tattoos,
i.e. it is forbidden to Jews and permitted for Gentiles. The Torah
does require Gentiles to observe seven Noahide commandments, as is mentioned on my web site.
I do not know how Catholics or others deal with the issue.
Sorry, I have not done enough research on body piercing to tell you anything in addition to what is on
the web site.
Again, thanks for writing!
