The Rat Race
By David Jansson
Have you ever wondered how
A person can live their entire life
In an endless circle, always
Lusting after the most recent craze?

Day after day, they
Approach life with a
Voracious appetite for the moment.
Infinite emptiness that is born and
Dies in a brief second, leaving nothing behind.

All men leave this world,
Slipping silently into the great beyond.

Yesterday matters no longer,
Only the future remains.
Untold millions waste away,
Remembering what they could have done,
but didnt.

Maybe life is nothing more than
A successive series of events, but
Somehow I disagree.
There is more to a man, an
Eternal spirit in the image of God that
Remains after the body is no more.
