The woman was a striking beauty with medium length red hair and sparkling blue eyes. Her skin was smooth like porcelain but kissed with a healthy golden color of the island sun. Her 5'6" frame was slim from many hours of kickboxing and jogging. There have been many whispered talks amongst the male employees of the hotel about this beautiful single woman. She has yet to be observed on the arm of the single gentlemen that have also noticed her whenever she walked into a room. Did she have someone waiting for her from where she came? Has no man been worthy of her company? Or has she yet to find the right one to spend the rest of her life with?
"Excuse me, Ms. Smith, sorry to bother you but this message just came for you with specific instructions that it be delivered immediately." He held out the envelope.
"Thank you," Rose Smith said as she dug in her bag for a tip and took the envelope. At first she didn?t recognize the writing, but upon opening and reading the signature, a bright smile formed on her face.
Dear Rosie,
How are you? Life is a whirlwind at the moment. I am writing this to ask you a huge favor. Would you be so kind as to do the hair, nails and makeup for the bridesmaids and myself? I know this is all last minute and everything but hoping that you will attend the wedding, I could think of no better person I would trust to make us, especially me, shine on this wonderful day. Please say you'll do it. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Love, Charisma
She re-read the letter over and over but her mind was already made up after the first reading. She got up quickly, gathered her things and made her way back to her room to make phone calls. Her first call was to her good friend and the bride-to-be Charisma Taylor and the groom, Adam Vagner. As the phone rang she remembered the first time she met them. It was on H.M.S. Henry the VIII. Actually she was a stowaway on board the ship and blended in quite nicely with the other passengers till the discovery of a dead body blew her cover on board. The captain was humane enough to let her work for her boarding. Charisma or Carrie as her friends called her, was the singer on board the ship. Rosie being a woman of all trades when it came to employment joined her once in a while for nightly duets. It was the first time in a long time, she felt comfortable with another person to open up to them and let a friendship grow. The friendship with Adam began after a tango during the ball given by the Duchess Marguerite Sansford, who was later identified as Bella DeNomolos, but that was another story, another chapter. At that moment the ringing stopped and the answering machine picked up.
"Hi Carrie, its Rosie. I just got your message and of course I would love to be part of the wedding. I'm still on the island and will be here till a week before the wedding. Let me know if there is anything you want specifically. Can't wait to see you and Adam in a couple of weeks. Love you. Bye."
Rosie hung up the phone and dialed her next number.
"Hello?"
"Hi, is Ginger there?"
"Yeah, hold on."
Shouting in the background, then the phone picked up.
"This is Ginge."
"Ginger, it's Rosie."
"Rosie? Holy heck, watcha been up to girl? Hey, you looking to come back? Because you were one of the best and ever since you left all the old biddies here are complaining that no one else can make them look good like you did."
Rosie started to laugh. "No, Ginger, I'm not looking to come back. However, I do need a favor." She told her about the wedding and the supplies she needed.
"Sure anything for a friend. But you have to promise to come back for a month or so. Maybe we'll have a special and rack in some business if we got word around that you're back."
"Sure Ginger, anything for you." She paused for a moment and out of curiosity asked the one question that had been plaguing her mind. "How is it over there? Is anyone looking?" Specifically him, she added silently.
Not needing to ask what the question meant, Ginger answered, "It's been pretty quiet here. I haven't seen him in quite a while. I thought there was someone following me for a while but now everything seems normal, if you know what I mean."
Rosie smile was one of relief. "I'm sorry for everything you know that, don't you? If I had known he would be taking it this far, I would've left a long time ago."
"I know honey, I know. It's just a miracle you're still alive after all of this. Look I wasn't thinking when I said I wanted you to come back and work for me again. Forget about it. Just keep yourself alive and call to say hi once in a while. Alright?"
She laughed. "Of course, but I'm still sorry for everything. I have to go now. I still haven't found anything to wear myself. I'll call you when I get the supplies. You take care."
"Yeah, you too. Bye."
"Bye."
After she hung up, she called the front desk and asked when the next plane was leaving for the mainland.
"Tomorrow morning, miss. Shall I book a seat for you?"
"Yes, thank you very much."
She walked over to the balcony and stared out at the ocean. Talking to Ginger brought back a lot of memories from her time in Las Vegas. That was another life for her but she just had to know if he was still looking for her. She's been lucky so far in the past two years but recently has let her guard down after meeting so many wonderful people on her little adventure. The cruise, in which she was a stowaway on, led to a hunt of sorts for a treasure map. Lance Rider, one of the many passengers she met on board, found the secret to the map and was gracious enough to share the find with everyone else on the cruise.
Here at Flambeii Island, the map led everyone to two treasures: one filled with gold and jewels, the other to medicinal herbs needed to cure Bella who was suffering from a rare illness. And as some adventures tend to end, at the last minute of the hour both treasure and cure were found, bringing Bella back to life and making a lot of people very rich. For Rosie it was a dream come true. Ever since she started on her own, she had been struggling to make ends meet. She gathered odd jobs here and there but fear for her life always had her moving a couple of months, sometimes weeks later. Now, she had nothing to worry about.
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. He's not going to find me, she thought silently to herself. He can't touch me or hurt me anymore. She said a silent prayer and opened her eyes once more to the beautiful scene in front of her. Time to live life for real now, Rosie. Nothing else would go wrong for a long time.
