| THE
MAIGO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL: ITS PAST AND PRESENT
The
people of the municipality of Maigo and its nearby places were facing
an extreme crisis on secondary education in 1990s due to the enormous
numbers of elementary graduates from and outside the municipality
of Maigo. Although Maigo School of Arts and Trade in existence however,
it could not accommodate the greater increase of student's population
since Maigo School of Arts and Trade focuses or concentrates more
on the tertiary education. The problem remained a problem until
Hon. SB member Norberto Badelles made the initiative and passed
a resolution to the board requesting to open a new high school to
answer the very high demand of the Maigoans. The body unanimously
approved the resolution and requesting the Local Finance Officer
through the Office of the Municipal Mayor to appropriate funds for
it. Local government officials gave full support to the school.
Likewise, the Superintendent of Maigo School of Arts and Trade Mr.
Maximo B. Aguaviva, Jr. donated one (1) hectare of land from the
Maigo School of Arts and Trade property to the municipality of Maigo
through Hon. Mayor Perlita P. Libardos, which was a donation also
from Becoy Family. This was made in order to have a space for the
construction of the building of the new high school. This land is
located where the present Maigo High School buildings erected.
The
school was formally opened on June 7, 1993 as Maigo Municipal High
School. It's main objective was to cater the educational needs of
the people especially the young ones who could not afford to enroll
to private institutions and coming from the municipality of Maigo
and its nearby places. The school started to open First Year level
on that School Year having two (2) sections only and with the total
population of 138 students. There were only four (4) teachers employed
who were locally paid. Two of them were full-time, namely: Mr. Felizardo
P. Panes and Mrs. Aida C. Boreros. While Mrs. Sonora C. Pallar and
Mrs. Elvira T. Abella (formerly Miss Elvira Tadlas) were part-time
volunteers. The school sustained through the local funds and also
the full support given by the local officials.

level to accommodate its very own former freshmen students and other
students from other schools. The population increased from 138 to
330 students. There were two (2) sections for the Second Year and
three (3) for the First Year. There were additional five (5) teachers
to the former four (4) teachers. Four (4) of them are full-time
and five (5) of them are part-time.
The
very amazing increased of enrollees every year opted and encourage
the SB members headed by Hon. Norberto Badelles to pass a resolution
to the national government through Hon. Cong. Mariano L. Badelles
to make Maigo Municipal High School into Maigo National High School.
After
several readings happened at the Houses of the Congress and the
Senate, it was successfully approved on June 3, 1995 thereby making
Maigo Municipal High School to Maigo National High School through
R. A. 7732. Then it was personally and regularly followed-up by
the School Administrator, Mr. Felizardo P. Panes to make its change
to national became faster.
On June
1995, there were very notable changes occurred. The school opened
as Maigo National High School. The enrollment continuously increased
from 360 to 550 students. It opened another year level, Third Year
