My mom, Marianne, and Aunt Betty flew in Thursday night. My cousin, Brenda, her husband, Jim, and their golden retriever, Sadie, live just outside San Francisco in Burlingame. Thank you so much for your hospitality!!!
Friday 10/10/03
We took a cable car ride down to the pier and went to Ghirardelli to get some chocolate samples then had lunch at Lori's Diner in Ghirardelli Square. We walked down to take a ferry to Sausalito. On the ferry ride, we had beautiful views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, the city, and planes flying over during an air show practice for Fleet Week. Then we did some shopping in Union Square and headed home. We went to Celia's for some mexican dinner. It was very good.
Saturday 10/11/03
Jim drove us up to Napa Valley. We stopped at Oakville Grocery to get lunch hoping to find a nice picnic spot, but the first place we went wouldn't allow us to bring food, so we ate in the parking lot. First we went to Robert Mondavi and did some tasting. No one really liked the wine very much, but it was very beautiful there. Then we went to the Raymond Winery and it was wonderful. We did a tasting and a few of us bought some wine there. Then we drove up to Sonoma and stopped at Ledson Winery. It's a huge beautiful castle and the wine was very good. Most of us bought wine there as well. Then we headed home and stopped at Muir Woods. They had some huge redwood trees that were neat. We were pretty tired by then so we went home, ordered pizza, and watched Notre Dame win!
Sunday 10/12/03
We had breakfast at the Crepevine which was yummy. Then we took Sadie to the dog beach at Half Moon Bay. It was very beautiful, but cold and windy on the ocean. Marianne, Brenda and I went horseback riding. It was scary at first. Brenda's horse tried to buck her off and they were just going to let us go without a guide. It was an interesting experience, but fun. We dropped Marianne off at the airport and then went home. We had dinner at Il Fornaio which was delicious.

We went shopping downtown on Union Street and had lunch at Left at Albuquerque before having to head to the airport.
