Troop 469 Newsletter - June 2004

IMPORTANT!!!!
There are still Scouts who have not turned in Physicals form or the
Merit Badge forms for Many Point…….bring them to Monday's meeting!

We have a Jefferson Band Fleece jacket, size L. If you lost this,
please see Janice. [email protected]

All High Adventures require updated medical forms……..if the Scout is
going on the Brule or Northern MN trip, be sure they have one to give
to the adult leaders.

ALL adult leaders need to complete the Youth Protection training to
be certified to be involved with the boys. You can do this online
thru the Viking Council site.

Scoutmaster Report

Pine Tree Training……we will be sending two boys: Greg N. and Chris D.

All adults should be thinking of different ways they can help this troop either by stepping up and organizing High Adventures or by contributing to adult help on campouts and with merit badges.

If anyone has an idea for a High Adventure, please come forward and discuss it with the troop and see if the boys want to do that activity. This year we had adults propose High Adventures in SCUBA, the Northern Adventure trip as well as the trip next year to Sea Base and the Brule River trip which we do every year.

Camping

MANY POINT…. We are reserved there for the week of July 25-31. Kevin Norby is the Troop Coordinator, please see him with questions We decided to reserve a place next year for the troop to attend Many Point as we needed to do so to preserve our spot but we also agreed to explore going to a different camp around the same time like the one near Rhinelander, WI, Tesomas Camp.

HIGH ADVENTURES

The Northern MN High Adventure is scheduled for a long weekend: Thursday thru Sunday, July 29-Aug 1. That trip is full and the sign ups should be receiving emails from Dave Kuplic on details.

Brule River trip. Traditionally this is the trip for 7-8th grades (age 13+). Planned for the week of June 10-13. Scouts MUST HAVE canoeing and swimming badges completed to participate. There are still openings for this trip---see Kevin Norby if interested.

SCUBA------the open dives are scheduled for August 7-8. We may still try a campout that weekend but we are having difficulty with a location. Details to follow for the boys involved.

MISC.

Any boy who does not have a red neckerchief and/or a Class B Tee- shirt uniform, please see Evan. The troop buys one each for the Scouts.
If you wish to purchase a SECOND tee-shirt or a sweatshirt (green, hooded, pouch, like the Class B shirt), email Jay Garey and he will attempt to obtain these. Jay is going to check on costs and availability, but he would like to know how many are interested. Jay's email is [email protected] or [email protected]

We discussed some ideas to improve our recruitment such as joining up with various Packs to encourage the Webelos II to continue. Inviting more Packs to our nearby campouts. Participating at Scout Night.

We also discussed opening up one of the monthly meetings to a more fun activity. We could do some orienteering, play boot hockey, go bowling, wall climbing etc. We are seeking methods to encourage the boys to have fun as well as complete merit badges. Suggestions are welcome.

TREASURER'S REPORT

We paid out a lot of Camp credits for the boys and we paid for the three scholarships that we had agreed to sponsor for this year at Many Point.

It was decided not to inquire into a membership at Isaak Walton for the troop as we have an adult member who can get us into the sites.

ADVANCEMENT REPORT

We are expecting 6 rank advancements and 16 Merit Badges to be awarded at the next Court of Honor which will be this Monday at the Bush Lake Isaak Walton, 7 PM.
