Scoutmaster Report

Year end is approaching……all Scouts should be evaluating where they stand in rank advancements. Next parent meeting in June will be the annual planning event. Please attend to assist us in making the decisions that affect the troop.

We ought to consider purchasing a membership to the Isaak Walton League since we use that facility on Bush Lake several times a year. The parents at the meeting agreed that this would be a good use of funds.

We also heard from Jay Garey about several boys in other troops who had tried to earn money for Many Point but were unable to earn enough due to a number of circumstances. We agreed to offer a one time $500 scholarship to fund three boys to go to Camp and we will assist them in learning how to earn camp money for next year.

Camping

MANY POINT…. We are reserved there for the week of July 25-31. Kevin Norby is the Troop Coordinator, please see him with questions. Remember---May 17 meeting is the one where ALL forms and money must be turned in.

We decided to reserve a place next year for the troop to attend Many Point as we needed to do so to preserve our spot, but we also agreed to explore going to a different camp around the same time like the one near Rhinelander, WI, Tesomas Camp.

It was decided that we would try and avoid scheduling High Adventures that conflicted with camps in the summer as some boys wanted to attend both but couldn't.

HIGH ADVENTURES

The Northern MN High Adventure is scheduled for a long weekend: Thursday thru Sunday, July 29-Aug 1. That trip is full and the sign ups should be receiving emails from Dave Kuplic on details.

Brule River trip. Traditionally this is the trip for 7-8th grades (age 13+). Planned for the week of June 10-13. Scouts MUST HAVE canoeing and swimming badges completed to participate. There are still openings for this trip---see Kevin Norby if interested.

******* NOTICE!!!! ********

You may use your Camp Credits for ALL Adventures…it is NOT limited just to Many Point. And your Camp Credits may be used to purchase camping equipment: New boots, sleeping bag, mess kit, etc. Any questions on WHAT can be directed to Kathy Burnside. Andy Christensen has a list of the Camp Credits each boy has….check with him for the amounts.

MISC.

If you are an Eagle Scout or no longer interested in selling wreaths, please turn in your customer lists to the troop which can help some younger Scouts build their selling base.

The SCUBA divers will be attempting their Open Water Dives in early August to complete their certification. We agreed to fund half of each divers cost if they do their Open Water dive here.

MEMBERSHIP

Evan announced that we have 6 new applications and the Charter is completed and sent to district.

At the May 17 meeting Evan will talk about what badges are needed by most of the troop and the boys will decide what themes they wish to pursue for the next year. At the June Parent meeting we will decide how best to direct these requests. It is important that the boys attend this meeting and that parents attend the June meeting.
