Beginning in 1862.....

The Second Minnesota Battery was mustered into the Union Army on March 21, 1862. The commanding officer was

Captain William A. Hotchkiss. The Battery saw their first major battle at Perryville, KY in October 1862. Other battles

included Knob Gap, Stones River, the Tullahoma campaign, Winchester, Chickamauga, Chattanooga, Mission Ridge, Tunnel

Hill, and Buzzard's Roost. In addition to these, there were many smaller actions that the battery was involved in. There were

at least 334 men who served in the Battery during the Civil War. The Second Minnesota Battery of Light Artillery was

mustered out of service in August of 1865. By then, one officer-- Lieutenant Albert Woodbury-- and five enlisted men had

died of wounds. Nineteen more died of disease.
