The Bajaur area development project was co-funded by the International Narcotics Matters, US Government and the Pakistan Narcotics Control Board, Islamabad. The project aimed at giving incentives to the farmers for not growing poppy. It covered various sectors of area development such as agriculture, food, buildings, communications, dairy development, education, health, irrigation, livestock, supply of power, supply of drinking water. The volume of the project at the dollar exchange rate of 1991 was Rs. 300 million. As over-all incharge of the project I was entrusted with the following duties:
· Conducting pre-feasibility studies / surveys, deciding priority of different components / locations,
· Preparing feasibility of selected projects,
· Financial and physical implementation and monitoring.
· Impact evaluation.
· Computerization of work plans and other data.
When I took over, no record of the activities was available. I, not only documented the project, but also computerized the reports, returns, and work plans. The Third Work Plan was prepared on personal computer and was approved by the Government of NWFP without any modification.

Performed the duties of Radio Communication Officer, Northern Areas where the Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation (then T&T) had been unsuccessful. The area of responsibility included the entire Gilgit Division (Dansem (Siachen) Skardu and Astor sector). The job included rendering advice to the Commander on radio communication matters, imparting training on radio communication to all the units of the formation, repair and maintenance of their radio equipment, periodic allocation of frequencies, general administration of under command officers and men and maintenance of vehicles and other equipment. Pioneered the facsimile operation between the Northern Areas and the General Headquarters Rawalpindi. Arranged 20 radio detachments for the search and rescue of those on board the unfortunate PIA Flight PK 402 that was lost in the Northern Areas on 25 August 1989. Imparted hands‑on training on personal computers to the officers and ladies in the garrison.
