In love with an absent lover...
She's actually enjoying his absence.
This can be interpreted as a different sense of freedom.
His possible reaction, his thoughts, the dialogues between he and she, are all open for the free-flow within her imaginary world.
All under her control.
She herself is the judge of the supreme court, dictating all the     interpretation and the direction of this love affair.
We can say that as he is further away, she is more depended on him, relying on an absent figure.  Maybe it's because of his absence, she can indulge herself into the land of imagination. Without any obligation to either parties.
The most beauty of a love affair, is formed by the fiction and dim  reality.  He only provides the room for crystallization of their love.
His absence has reduced their physical involvement to a minimum.  Thus everything about this love affair comes from within.
If this love affair is beautiful, is because she allows it to be.
If it is destined to fall apart, is because she doesn't need the absent lover to be this close to her, too close to break her with the cruel reality.
