Task 3:
Life, Hope, and Determination
"Giving up on reading , he let his mind drift as he stared at the city, half slum, half paradise.  How could a place be so ugly and violent yet beautiful at the same time?" Graceland p 7
Listen to There Are Rougly Zones, a poem by Robert Frost, read outloud at www.robertfrostoutloud.com.
Despite the poverty and violence, despite the death and depair their is also hope.  This task of the WebQuest looks at some images, quotes, and links having to do with the idea that people can still have hope even in the face of the worst situations.  First listen to the poem There Are Roughly Zones by Robert Frost and follow the instructions below it.  Next look at the images on this page, read the accompanying quotes and ponder the message of hope found within them.  Tthen follow the link to Chris Abani's website and read at least two interviews. Finally complete the task at the bottom of the page before continuing to Task 4, the final task.
What is this poem about literally?  What does it say about the nature of man?  Does this poem have anything to do with hope or determination?  Think about these questions and then post at least two comments on the class wiki responding to these questions, posing more questions, or responding to some other idea or theme pertaining to this WebQuest, Graceland, or the theme of life, hope, and determination.

Graceland p248
"Madam Caro took four bullets in her ample backside but didn't slow down, the pestle she used to pound amala and eba at her buka held high, pounding army heads into submission." Graceland p303
