A Socratic Seminar is a form of discussion based on the way Socrates used to use discussions as a way of exploring ideas with his students.

 

While participating in a Socratic Seminar…

 

·        Stay focused on the text.

·        Speak freely

·        Respect the ideas of others

·        Must participate

·        Critique ideas and not people

·        Ask questions to clarify or provoke discussion

·        Always give reasons to back up your opinions

·        Keep an open mind and be willing to change your view when you learn more information
