Music Benchmarks
Benchmark 1:  Students, either alone or with others, will sing a varied repertoir of music.
Benchmark 2:  Students, either alone or with others, will play on instruments a varied repertoire of music.
Benchmark 3:  Students will read and notate music.
Benchmark 4:  Students will create music.
Benchmark 5:  Students will listen to, respond to, analyze, evaluate and describe music.
Benchmark 6:  Students will demonstrate an understanding of music in relation to history and a variety of cultures.
Participate in singing of rote songs.
Participate in singing games.
Match Pitch (limited range C-G)
Play simple high-low or up-down patterns using melodic instruments.
Perform steady beat of rhythmic patterns using rhythm instrumnets.
Read simple melodic notation.
Identify pre-notation rhythmic symbols such as line notation and stick notation.
Create simple accompaniments using body percussion and classroom instruments.
Create new text for familiar songs.
Select and add vocal and percussive sounds to songs, poems and stories.
Participate in musical dramitization.
Move expressively to music.
Distinguish specific vocal timbres (children/adult male)
Identify percussive and classroom instruments.
Discove same/different sections in orchestral music.
Respond to notated rhythm patterns.
Identify contrast:  long-short, accompaniment-no accompaniment.
Determine mood or style from listening/
Evaluate visual pattern of notes that repeat or stay the same.
Use appropiate musical vocabulary.
Participate in activities that represent varied cultures.
Participate in activities that represent episodes of American history.
