In my opinion, Huck from The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain:
he is my hero.
At first sight, Huck seems a free child, living his life in the middle
of nature and without any social constraints.
In fact, during his voyage on the Mississippi river, he has to face a
bitter reality; the fact that while Jim, the Negro, is a genuinely free child,
Huck himself is the 'slave' of the social norms, according to which the
white people are superior to the black ones.
The moment Huck has to make up his mind and decide whether to deliver
Jim to the authorities or not, he experiences the process of maturity and
by saving Jim, he pleads for friendship as being stronger than any social
ties.
