After doing a bit of investigating, and trying to find how best to add my scrapbook gallery to this site and password protect it, I've come up with a solution that makes me so happy. I have a new TypePad Plus account!
I've been slow to embrace TypePad (or other blog software) because, as I mentioned before, I've had this site for several years, and have grown attached to it. I love web design. And, frankly, I've been way too lazy to move all my files elsewhere. :)
However! For about what I'm paying now for this site, I am getting TONS more space and some really great features, while still retaining the ability to personalize things a bit. (If I were to upgrade to Typepad Pro I could customize the css files, even, but think I can live without that for now, as it's quite a bit more per month.)
So I've already got my scrapbook layouts loaded up there, and am now working on the design (so fun) before I start moving the archives over. (I'd like to keep everything all together over there, and eventually just delete this site here.)
I've decided to go ahead and password protect the entire new site for a few reasons. For one thing, once you've logged on once there using the password, you can check a "remember me" box that will just hold the info in a cookie on your computer so that you don't have to reenter it every time you log in. Two, I think that will be less annoying than having the site itself password-free, but having to enter a password each time you want to view a different scrapbook gallery.
And three, which is the most important thing for me, I'm really interesting in having a community rather than an audience. I want to have a general idea of who is reading my blog. I don't mean that in a creepy, tracking-all-my-stats kind of way, and I don't mean that I need to have met you in person, of course . . . I just mean that I don't want to be talking to an anonymous group. I want this to be personal, to be a place where my friends are, and to feel like community. I want it to be a little, pretend, online Mitford. (That's for Missy, if you're reading today. :))
Once I get it all up, I'll post here with more info, and you can peamail or email me to get the password. So excited, I am, I am. :)
ps I've noticed that www.tag-board.com has been having some technical difficulties the past few days, so the tag-board here has been on and off. That just happens sometimes. It's not a huge company. I tend to think it's run by just a couple guys somewhere, maybe in their garage or something. :)
