Here are some weekend tidbits.- We went and saw a sneak preview of "Must Love Dogs" last night, which fit the bill for the nice, light and fluffy romantic comedy I was in the mood for after sitting through "War of the Worlds" (ugh) last week. "Must Love Dogs" was not a good movie as far as movies go, I'll admit, but it was enjoyable, had a great soundtrack, and was full of cute clothes, scenery, and interior design. :) I've always had a soft spot in my heart for Diane Lane -- and also Jodie Foster and Brooke Shields (who were not in this movie) -- because they are all about my age and have been acting since they were very young, so I've been watching them grow up with me for about 25 years or even longer. I remember sitting in a little arthouse theater in Spokane, Washington when I was 12 or 13 watching Diane Lane in "A Little Romance."
And I've always also liked John Cusack (the romantic lead in "Must Love Dogs"), for the same reasons I like Johnny Depp -- he seems to always play smart, quirky, and possibly bordering-on-the-insane characters. :)
So, overall, not a particularly good movie (I hate the lack of real romance in so many romances now), but I still enjoyed the evening. The Diane Lane character could have been Mary Tyler Moore when she was young, although something about Diane's acting seemed very flat and bad. (But maybe it was just the writing. They gave most of the good lines to John Cusack, I think.) But nice to see something about a couple closer to in age to 40 than 20. And it was fun to see Christopher Plummer and Stockard Channing. They were both darling.
- I got a sweet, sweet email from Kristina Nicolai-White yesterday. I love that woman. Long live Pea1.
- Yesterday was my dad's 66th birthday, so he and my mom (and my sister and her family) are coming over this afternoon for a birthday celebration. My dad has about three weeks of radiation treatments to go. He is still feeling good, so that's a real blessing.
