Today whilst walking with my daughter, I noticed several flags flying in our neighborhodd. But I was looking at flowers and talking to Claire, so I noticed them in the back of my mind, where it was decided that they were leftover from Memorial Day. The front of my mind would have realized this didn't make much sense, but the back of my mind is lazy or just stupid, and I didn't realize until just two seconds ago when I looked at my calendar to see what date to put on this journal entry that today is, in fact, Flag Day.
Happy Flag Day!
I would like to take the opportunity on this Flag Day (actually, because it is almost 1 am, today is the day after Flag Day) to point you towards an artist I am very enthusiastic about. Her name is Mi'Chelle (Mee-Shell), and you can see her scrapbooking
here, and you can see her blog
here. She uses fresh colors and scraps wonderful photos of her cute baby daughter, and I just have a very warm spot in my heart for this woman. Any woman who sticks
Jane Eyre,
The Screwtape Letters and
Harry Potter on her "favorites" reading list is either my long lost identical self, or a kindred spirit. And oh, how the heart jumps for joy to find them! It makes life so much less scary and big.
ps This photo is an American flag made out of mixed media and found objects (Coke cans!) by
an artist named Ross Palmer Beecher.
