1)
Does your driver work under Windows 2000? What about
NT? You mention something about NT drivers: where can I get those?
Yes, they should do, but you are better off installing the
original NT drivers from where I created this installation: go to http://www2.driverguide.com/cgi/drifound-new.pl?ID=epson&NAME=Epson
and download file E_C300_NT4.exe from that page.
2)
Do you have a (insert language) version of
these instructions? Do you plan on making one?
At the time of writing, there is only an English version of these instructions. I don’t think I will produce a version in other languages (Portuguese included), as most people on the Net can understand English. I might add other translations if I receive them from people, but I cannot promise anything.
3)
Do you have a (insert language) version of
the drivers themselves? Do you plan on making one? Will these drivers work on
non-English versions of Win XP?
English is the only version of drivers available as the original drivers were English only. Therefore I have no plans to produce a distribution for other languages. The drivers should, however, work fine when installed on versions of Windows in other languages: I have received positive feedback from German, Polish, Portuguese, French, Dutch and other installations.
4)
Do you plan on making a version of your drivers for
the (insert printer model)?
No. I only own the Stylus Color 300. The driver MIGHT work on other similar discontinued Epson printers, but are definitely on your own.
5)
What happened to the ink level display available in
Windows 95/98?
That is a good question: I believe they are NOT in the NT driver I based this distribution in. I suspect that we will have to live without it…
6)
Your drivers work but I keep getting a “printer
found” every time I start Windows. How can I get rid of this?
I remember something like that happening to me when I was still developing the procedure to install. If I remember it correctly it was because I hadn't let Windows find the printer AND install the B&W drivers (on the very first time) and Win XP had therefore not "bound" the found printer to the "working" printer.
Somehow, if you install the B&W drivers correctly windows will remember "this printer signature is found and working ok" (as B&W) and when you replace the B&W driver for the colour it STILL keeps thinking that it should not mess with this printer and does not need "find" the hardware again. If the colour drivers get installed "on the side" of the normal detection this problem will probably happen.
Try to remove all the printers
(from the Printers folder) and the Device Manager (maybe marked with a yellow
exclamation mark), delete the files in \system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\2 and redo
the procedure from start including the very last two (optional) points...
failing that I don't know...
7)
Do you work for Epson? Did you get anything out of
Epson for your effort?
No is the answer to both questions.
I did it for my own use and decided to share it. I informed them of the
existence of the drivers but, for obvious reasons, they will not acknowledge
their existence because they don’t want to support it…
8)
Are these drivers free? Do I have to pay you
anything? Is there a registered version?
These drivers are 100% free – if you like them just use them. I do have a PayPal account where you can donate whatever you feel these drivers are worth to you, if anything. This would be just a token of your appreciation for the couple of evenings I spent developing the procedure: you are under no obligation to do so, and you will not get a special “registered” version of the drivers in return (because there is no such a thing). If you do decide to chip in just go to The Driver’s Page (http://www.geocities.com/mmelo777/) and click on the PayPal icon. Thanks!
