Cartography |
Course Description (GEO 191):
This
course focuses on the theory and practice of making maps. Its objective is to
help students develop the appropriate spatial skills so that they can transform
geographic data into abstractions of the world. Topics will include the basics
in mapping (e.g., scale, spatial reference systems, and projections), data
acquisition, interpretation, construction techniques for thematic mapping,
principles of cartographic design, animation, preparations for digital display,
and cartography as an element of Geographic Information Science. This course
contains a significant lab component.
