Pip's Day at the Montpelier
Border Terrier Rally
On Saturday, April 14, we went to the Weston Wildlife Refuge in Casanova, Virginia to the Montpelier Border Terrier Rally. It was a whole day of new, fun things to do with LOTS of other Border Terriers. There were over 50 people and 90 Borders there. There was an activity for everybody.
There was Obedience.. which I didn't enter because I am six months old and a little flighty right now.
There was Lure Coursing.. I tried that. That white bag is really fast and those pulleys make a whiring sound that fascinated me so that I forgot about the bag. Then I smelled something..out there....so I had to investigate. Then people were calling me...then I saw that bag move again, so I gave chase...then I smelled something else ...and those pulleys!!! It was fun to just run and run.
Then there was a Conformation show. I've never done that, but we tried it anyway. It was just for fun. I came in 4th out of 5 in the Puppy Class. I'm #1 in Mom's heart :)
Then there was a parade of Golden Oldies and Rescue dogs. Some dogs have gone to this Rally over 10 years.
There was Agility for the really
energetic.
Some of us just
watched.
The judge, Phil Klosinski gave a demonstration on grooming and stripping.
He had quite a crowd around him for this and his little dog was so
well behaved.
But, OH BOY!!, my favorite...EARTH DOG!! There were RATS there!!!
There was Introduction to Quarry for the
uninitiated...
Senior EarthDog for the experienced...and Junior EarthDog just for ME!! I went right down that hole, found those rats and went to work.
I LOVE
this!!!

The EarthDog field.
After EarthDog there were Border Terrier races. I didn't enter but I watched and learned.
What you do is chase
that tail and try to catch it.
You follow it right
into that hole!! First one through gets it!!
They added hurdles
for the older dogs.
A fun day was had by all. You can bet I will be there next year, too.
