The Wings Over Ta' Qali 2006 was held on the 28th and 29th of October. The three pictures above says it all, good weather and a very good turn out of visitors and partecipants.
Saturday afternoon saw the official opening of the event by the Hon. Minister Censu Galea. After the ritual opening, the flying display started by members flying their well preserved models and doing some manouvers reserved only for the seasoned modelers.
On the static display there was a large selection of models divided into their respective category mainly, sports, scale, warbirds, jets and helis. To compliment the static display of our models there was a full size jet engine brought to us by the Malta Aviation Museum Foundation |

Also invited where the Hal Far Model Aircraft Flying Association. Members from our sister club came along with some very interesting models and gave the public some breathtaking flying displays.
Not to be missed by the kids present was the toffee runs made by two of the model aircraft specially equipped with hatches for dropping toffees. No word is good enough to explain the fighting spirit presented by the kids in order to run and collect the sweets, there are no'excuse me please','sorry','after you' |

I would say that the climax of the event was the simulated air attack by enemy planes on a control tower. The air attack was presented by four modelers flying their warbirds and attacking the tower. The pyrotechnics involved here are a show on their own, bombs exploding around the tower, model aircraft catching fire and exploding in front of the tower, machine guns firing, and attcking planes with sound effects on the public address system. This is the most exicting five minites of the event. |
