BIOGRAPHY

Marcia Madeira, Lighting Designer, received a Tony nomination and won the Drama Desk Award for NINE directed by Tommy Tune with Raul Julia.

Other Broadway designs include My One and Only with Tommy Tune and Twiggy;
Marilyn, An American Fable with Allison Reed and Scott Bakula; and The Music Man with Dick van Dyke.

Off-Broadway designs include: Cloud 9 directed by Tommy Tune;
Privates On Parade with Jim Dale and Simon Jones directed by Larry Carpenter, choreography by Daniel Pelzig; and
The Transposed Heads at Lincoln Center written and directed by Julie Taymor.

Ms. Madeira designedSide By Side By Sondehim, Rigoletto and Vanessa for The Dicapo Opera Theatre,NYC;
Richard III for the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, Montgomery;
The Phantom of the Opera, by Ivan Jacobs in Geneva and Copenhagen;
Postcard from Morocco for the Manhattan School of Music;
The National Tours of The Cole Porter Songbook: A Swell Party;
Hey! Mr. Producer,
the Cameron Mackintosh retrospective, on board the MS Norwegian Sky;
and Follies Parisienne at the Sheraton Valley Forge.

Summertime designs have been seen at the Gateway Playhouse, Bellport, Long Island, NY.
Gypsy, Swingtime Canteen, The King and I, On The Town,
Jesus Christ Superstar, Footloose, Forbidden Broadway, Swing, West Side Story,
The Will Rogers Follies


Ms. Madeira has designed La Boheme for The Oklahoma City Philharmonic;
Don Carlos for The Seattle Opera Association;
La Cenerentola with Frederika von Stade for the Los Angeles Music Center Opera Company, and
five tours for The National Lyric Opera Company.
She has designed numerous regional theatre productions for The Huntington Theatre, Boston; The Walnut Theatre, Philadelphia; Studio Arena Theatre, Buffalo; and The Alliance, Atlanta.

Ms. Madeira has brought out three ships for the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line:

  • Mariner of the Seas, 2003,Ice Dancin'
  • Navigator of the Seas 2002, Ice Under The Big Top
  • GTV Radiance of the Seas in 2001, designing the lighting forRockin' In Paradise and Welcome To Our World

    She has also designed shows on board the Legend of the Seas, Monarch of the Seas and the Brilliance of the Seas.


    From 1984 to 1999, Ms. Madeira was the principal lighting designer for over 30 productions aboard thirteen cruise ships for Jean Ann Ryan Productions.
