Genova (Genoa) |
Genova (pronounced GEN-o-wa) is built against the side of a mountain, ending right at the sea port. As we toured around, we saw where some apartments had been built so one road was at the ground (considered 'G' or '0', not '1'), and the next street was at the roof! Some cross streets were so steep, they had to build 'switchbacks' through the buildings. |

Venezia (pronounced ven-EATZ-e-a) is, as most people know, built on top of sinking swampland. This location, as well as the accepted neutrality of the residents here, made Venezia a business capital, instead of a political one. The easiest way around the city is still by Water Bus or Water Taxi, although most tourists (yes, ourselves included) enjoy doing it 'Gondola' style! |
