BOLAANG MONGONDOW

Bolaang Mongondow is the name of a district, which covers the highlands & lowlands between Minahassa and  Gorontalo.  The population is 411,086 (1996).  Beside the legend of their origin, Bolaang Mongondow is renowned for their traditional ceremonies, which are unique and impressive and portray the process of human life from birth to adulthood.  These celebrations are great tourist attractions that should not be missed.  Another cultural attraction are the traditional dances, which have been preserved over time. 
Kabela Dance: Is performed to welcome visitors. 
Joko Dance: Represents heroic actions of the soldiers in battle, and long ago it was performed to generate patriotic spirit for the soldiers.  Nowadays, it has become a popular youth dance. 
Mokosambe Dance: is a series of dances which tells a popular fairy tale about seven nymphs who came to the earth to bathe in the river. 
Kalibombang Dance: a newly created dance representing the love story and the wedding of the Bolaang Prince Ojotang and Mongondow Princess Kalibombang.
