FINCASTLE SERIES
The Fincastle series consists of very deep, somewhat poorly drained soils that
formed in loess or other silty material and in the underlying calcareous loamy
till. Permeability is moderate in the upper part of the solum; moderately slow
in the lower part of the solum; and slow or very slow in the underlying till.
These soils are on till plains and have slopes ranging from 0 to 6 percent. Mean
annual temperature is about 51 degrees F, and mean annual precipitation is about
40 inches.
