FINCASTLE SERIES

The Fincastle series consists of very deep, somewhat poorly drained soils that formed in loess or other silty material and in the underlying calcareous loamy till. Permeability is moderate in the upper part of the solum; moderately slow in the lower part of the solum; and slow or very slow in the underlying till. These soils are on till plains and have slopes ranging from 0 to 6 percent. Mean annual temperature is about 51 degrees F, and mean annual precipitation is about 40 inches.
