About Me
Dr.Mahmoud Lotfy,Ph.D.
Assistant Professor of Cellular & Molecular Biology, Molecular Biology Department, Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology  Research Institute

RESEARCH & TEACHING ACTIVITIES:

The major interest of my research is concentrated on molecular genetics such as G-6-PD [detection of molecular variants in Egypt]; Molecular virology especially viral hepatitis type C (HCV) [detection of factors affecting treatment of HCV infected patients with interferon for detection of responsive and unresponsive cases before treatment application] and Mycobacterium tuberculosis [development of sensitive assay for rapid detection comparing with other standard molecular and biochemical assays]; molecular parasitology [identification and characterization of different schistosomal antigens and its usefulness in vaccination and diagnosis experiments]; and the molecular oncology [oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes mutations detection, also the Clinicopathological significance of different angiogenesis-related markers in different tumors are in investigation. All these projects are conducted in collaboration with my colleagues in our institute and with other institutes and universities.

Our institute is concern with awarding the M.Sc., PhD and Diplomas only in Molecular sciences for the medical, science, agriculture, veterinary and pharmacy students who have the B.Sc in relevant field, thus the courses that recently I taught were: Molecular Virology, Molecular Microbiology, Molecular Diagnosis of Anemias (Molecular Hematology), and Molecular & Cellular Biology of Aging.
